Dr. Zatari meets Palestinian Youth Delegation from the Scandinavian Countries and Jordan

Hebron Mayor, Dr. Daoud Zatari, received a delegation of Palestinian Youth living in Scandinavian Countries and Jordan. The delegation was accompanied by Mr. Ismail Tallawy, the Secretary-General of the National Committee for Education, Science and Culture in Palestine, and the meeting was also attended by members from Hebron's municipal council as well as representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Palestine Polytechnic University (PPU) in order to get a first-hand view of Hebron reality on the ground.

After welcoming the delegation, Dr. Zatari started his general discussion on Hebron's historical significance particularly the Old City, and on the excessive use of force by Israeli troops that have been perpetrated against the innocent civilians of the Old City. He recalled the massacre committed in Al Ibrahimi Mosque in 1994 that led to the closing down of Al Shuhada Street; the arterial link connects between the north and south of the city, and to the unjust division of Al Ibrahimi mosque. He also referred to inspection procedures committed against the Old City children on their way to school and in their return to homes.

Dr. Zatari further said "the political condition of the City, its division into H1 and H2 and the Israeli occupation's dominance on the southern area prevent Hebron Municipality from implementing development projects and form improving the citizen quality of life".

On his part, the delegation representative thanked the mayor for the warm reception and hospitality, and expressed his happiness at this visit to the homeland. He also underlined the importance of the delegation visit in promoting ties with the homeland and in quite conveying of the Palestinians' real suffering and pain.

By the end of the meeting, the Delegation members then toured the Old City where they visited Al Ibrahimi Mosque and areas adjacent to settlements in order to get a first-hand view of the reality on the ground and of Palestinian suffering.
