Dr. Daoud Zatari, Mayor of Hebron, met with a high level delegation from London Assembly chaired by Mr. Murad Qureshi, London Assembly Member, to discuss issues related to Hebron's living conditions. The meeting was also attended by Members from Hebron Municipal Council.
Dr. Zatari made general discussions on political and security conditions in the city, daily Palestinian suffering due to Israeli occupation and settler practices and presence in the heart of the city, the impacts of closing down of Al Shuhada Street as well the unjust division of Hebron into H1 and H2 on the civilians.
Dr. Zatari further said" it must convey the reality of what is going on the ground particularly in Hebron which is quite different from the media, well as to expose the Israeli acts of violence that have been perpetrated against innocent civilians of the Old City to World Public Opinion", asking the Human Rights Institutions to support Palestinians' rights guaranteed by international laws.
Moreover, Dr. Mayor touched on the signed agreements between Hebron and other muniicpalitis of UK with a view to share culture and experience aimed at improving the situation in Hebron.
On his part, Mr. Qurshi said he sympathized with Palestinians and their just case, and has shown a great commitment to cooperate with Hebron Municipality in conveying the reality of Hebron to UK Public Opinion.
After exchanging Symbolic gifts, the Delegation members then toured the Old City where they visited Al Ibrahimi Mosque and areas adjacent to settlements.
