Mr. Imran Qawasmi, Member from Hebron's Municipal Council, hosted the Deputy Mayor of San Sebastian, Jon Albizu, to discuss the opportunity of signing a twinning agreement between the municipalities of Hebron and San Sebastian.
After welcoming the delegation, Mr. Qawasmi spoke about Hebron, its geography and history, the Old City and the suffering of inhabitants due to occupation measures and practices under the pretext of protecting settlers. He said that Hebron Municipality faces obstructions while providing services to the inhabitants of the Old City as it is situated inside the H2 area and under the security controlling of the Israeli Authority.
He further added that Hebron Municipality is interested in building cooperation and in promoting ties with many cities in the world, with a view to share experiences, to support the city with vital projects as well as to enhance the citizens' daily living condition. He also expressed the municipality's willingness to cooperate with San Sebastian Municipality.
Mr. Albizu expressed his readiness to further cooperation and to enhance ties with Hebron Municipality in many fields to achieve the mutual interest on the both sides.
After screening films about Hebron and Sebastian, the delegation toured the Old City where they visited Al Ibrahimi Mosque and areas adjacent to settlements in order to get a first-hand view of the reality on the ground and of Palestinian suffering.
