A formal reception was organized by the Palestinian Ambassador to Senegal ,Dr. Safwat Bregheith, to host The Mayor of Hebron, Dr. Daoud Zatari and his accompanying delegation. This visit to Senegal is considered as the first of its kind, and aimed at deepening ties between the cities of Hebron and Thies.
During their stay in Thies City, the delegation visited a carpet factory, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and other locations, where they were discussing the opportunity of joint cooperation. The Mayor Dr. Zatari then spoke about the situation of Hebron, and put lights on the economic condition and how it is affected by the illegal security measures of the Israeli Occupation.
Thereafter, the cities of Hebron and Thies signed a twinning agreement in the attendance of many Ambassadors, representatives of International Institutions, Representatives of Islamic Development Bank, and the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mauritania. The Mayor of Thies, Mr. Talla Sylla, stressed the importance of signing such an agreement which will help in sharing experiences between the two sides and in strengthening cooperation in different fields.
On the other part, Dr. Zatari expressed happiness of signing the agreement and called to implement many mutual projects particularly in the Solid Waste Management.
On the sidelines of the visit, a meeting was held in the attendance of the former of Foreign Minister of Ghana, the Advisor of Ghana President, the Ambassador of Mauritania to Senegal, the Director of Islamic Radio Stations, and the Director of the Palestinian Agency for International Cooperation, where the Mayor Dr. Zatari briefed them about the current situation of Palestine, and underlined the importance of signing cooperation agreement at the international level.
