Under the protection of the Israeli Soldiers, the Settlement's waste compactors broke into Al-minia Landfill, to the east of Bethlehem, and use the force to utilize the dumpsite despite the rejection of the landfill administration directed by the Joint Services Council for Solid waste Management which called international parties and the donors to safeguard the Project of alMinia.
Al-Minia Landfill is regarded as the first integrative cooperation gathered between all local bodies and West Bank Municipalities, this project which financed by many donors was designed within the high quality standards in order to recycle the solid waste, safeguard the environment and take advantage from Methane produced in generating the electricity.
The competent parties got the necessary permits from the Israeli Side to establish the landfill as the landfill takes place in C area. Then, Many Obstructions were made by the Israeli Authority to prevent operating the dumpsite till the donors' intervention months ago.
Dr. Daoud Zatari, the Head of the Joint Services Council for Solid Waste Management, declared that the Council strongly refuses to share the dumpsite with the Settlements and denounced the acts of force used by the Israelis to break into the landfill.
Moreover, Dr. Zatari added" The Israeli Authorities always veto any agreement with the Palestinian Authorities, and aim at violating the Palestinians' rights through their excessive violation measures, and we appeal all donors, international parties well as the Palestinian Leadership to exert pressure on the Israelis to stop their practices against the Palestinians which seek to gradually dominate on Al-mina Landfill and to legitimize settlements to use the dumpsite ".
It is worth mentioning that the project obtained funds from the World Bank and other donors, with a cost estimated at 28 million $. The project also aimed at closing 18 random and inefficient solid waste disposal sites in both Governorates of Hebron and Bethlehem and replacing it with a new privately-operated sanitary landfill that will serve the two cities, enhance the services provided by the landfill and raise the locals' environmental awareness.
