A Colombian Journalist Delegation which represents many television channels and newspapers visited Hebron City to get a view on Hebron's reality on the ground and on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, also to stand in solidarity with Hebron's inhabitants. The delegation was accompanied by Mr. Ismael Jahshan, Director of Media Ministry in The Southern West Bank
The Mayor of Hebron, Dr. Daoud Zatari, as well as Members from Hebron's Municipal Council welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for the visiting delegation support to the Palestinian legal rights.
The Mayor Zatari gave a talk about Hebron's historical significance, and about the inhabitants suffering as a result of illegal settlement, violent practices by the Israeli Authority against the innocent civilians and about the continuous closure of many vital streets in the Old City of Hebron.
He also spoke about the opportunities of achieving peace between Palestinians and Israelis , and said "The Palestinians are loving-peace people and our children have the rights to live in decent conditions as the same as other children in the World". Dr. Zatari also raised the issue of the peace process and how the Palestinian leadership, chaired by President Abbas, is seeking a just and comprehensive peace and is trying to end occupation through negotiations and peace process. However, the reality on the ground shows that Israel is not serious and lacks the real desire to achieve peace.
The Mayor added " the situation in Palestine needs a world stance to exert pressure on the Israeli Side with a view to prevent them from using force and violations that go against the international treaties and laws, and to reveal their inhumane measures against Palestinians to the public opinion.
By the end of the meeting, many queries regarding the city's political situation, the relation between Palestinians and settlers, and the Mayor's vision towards the prosperity of Hebron and towards achieving peace were discussed with members for Hebron's Municipal Council.
The Delegation members then toured the Old City where they visited Al Ibrahimi Mosque and areas adjacent to settlements.
