Dr. Dauod Zatari, mayor of Hebron, discussed with the Director of Spanish Foundation Cooperation "Luria Aribarra" the projects under implementation in the old town of the city, with the support of the Spanish Foundation Cooperation and future coping mechanisms between the two parties in order to support and rehabilitate the old town with maintaining historical and architectural civilization.
Dr. Zatari focused on the goal of the municipality of Hebron to conserve the old town by making it a priority in infrastructure projects, rehabilitating its facilities and building it within the Hebron Municipality ability in providing all services to the city of Hebron considered to be one geographical unit; despite the political division of the city stated in the Hebron agreements.
Stated as well, more efforts and support should be given to the old town to provide them with services. However, that is ed due to the strict procedures and policies that the Israeli occupation authorities set to allow the municipality crew to work in the old town, especially in rehabilitation projects of infrastructure, despite the urgent need for action to improve the drainage network rain water and sewerage network, which is a serious problem and have threatened the lives of citizens and affected property during the past winter.
Furthermore, reconstruction project in 'Jaber neighborhood’ and other neighborhoods in the old town that are funded by the Spanish Cooperation Foundation was discussed, in addition to the structural scheme of the old town and the importance of implementing and providing the necessary information to develop the old town scientifically.
At the end of the meeting, which was attended by a number of technical staff from the Cooperation Foundation and the technical staff of the Hebron Municipality, Aribarra expressed her satisfaction to the understanding and the way of dealing with the cooperation projects by the Mayor of Hebron. She also illustrated her willingness to work on more coordination and cooperation with the municipality of Hebron in the coming period in order to successfully reconstruct and rehabilitate the old town and organize technical sessions between the two crews.
