    French Consul Gets a First-Hand View of Hebron's Reality and Discusses Cooperation Opportunity


     The Consul General of France, Herve Magro, visited Hebron Municipality to get a first-hand view of Hebron's reality on the ground. In the meeting with the consul, Dr. Daoud Zatari, the Mayor of Hebron, discussed the cooperation opportunities between the both sides with a view to support the implementation of vital projects in the city of Hebron.

    After welcoming the delegation, Dr. Zatari spoke about the City's political situation, and about the obstructions as well as illegal measures that have been performed against the citizens of Hebron's Old City and of the Southern Area. He touched on the economic life that entirely stopped as a result of the closuring down of Al-Shuhada' St. under the pretext of protecting the settlers. He further added "the war on Gaza Strip badly affected the economic condition of Hebron City".
     
    "The political situation in the Old city prevented Hebron Municipality from improving its services and from implementing developments projects there" said the mayor, adding that the closure of Al-Ibrahim Mosque in past couple of days as the Jewish feast has paralyzed the economic life in the alleyways of the Old city.
     
    Moreover, Dr. Zatari touched on the joint cooperation between Hebron Municipality and each of Belfort, Arcueil Municipalities as well as the FSGT, and called for more cooperation to enhance Hebron's living conditions.
     
    On his part, Consul Magro expressed his happiness for his visit to Hebron, and expressed his willingness to promote cooperation with French municipalities. He also underlined the importance of sharing experiences and culture between both sides. By the end of the meeting, Mr. Magro thanked the mayor for the warm reception and hospitality.
