    WWTP, Water Crisis and Rehabilitation of the City Entrances were among issues discussed with Donors


     An expanded meeting comprised of Representatives from World Bank, United States Agency for International Development (USAID), AFD, Black and Veatch well as Palestinian Water Authority (PWA) were held in Hebron Municipality with a view to discuss the implementation of the Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP), and to evaluate the progression of Industrial Waste Treatment in addition to discuss the opportunity of asphalting the City Entrances and increasing Hebron’s share in water quantities.

    Hebron Municipality Delegation was chaired by Dr. Daoud Zatari, Hebron Mayor, who was accompanied by his assistants and other municipal staff. The meeting was also attended by Peter Riley, USAID Water Resources and Infrastructure Director, Camille Kardnet, AFD’s Project Manager, Dr. Iyad Rammal, Senior Infrastructure Specialist in World Bank, Saadi Ali, Project Manager of PWA as well as Dr. Daoud Qawasmi, Technical Project Manager of Black and Veatch.
     
    Dr. Zatari thanked the Donors for financing and supporting the Project of WWTP and added “Hebron Municipality is seeking at achieving such a project as it has a good impact towards safeguarding environment and economic which accordingly enhance the services provided to the citizens”. It is worth mentioning that the cost of WWTP’s project is estimated at $ 50 million which obtained funds from many Donors and from Hebron Municipality fund.  
     
    Dr. Zatari then underlined that the project of allocating additional water quantities to (Al-Sha’ar Line) will alleviate the severe water shortage in summertime. He also asked the Donors to exert more pressure on the Israeli Sidefor the issue of Water Shortage.
     
    By the end of the meeting, Riley expressed his appreciation for the municipal efforts in the context of its cooperation with the donors to get the WWTP project off the ground, and stressed the donors’ interest in solving the water crisis issue by providing the needed assistance to Hebron Municipality.
