Dr. Daoud  Zatari mayor of  Hebron, in the presence of the members of the municipal

council met today with "Eloi Poltronieri " Mayor of  Vacaria in the presence of a delegation of Brazilians represented by members of the parliamentarians, mayors and businessmen and signed a twinning agreement and joint cooperation, in the Korean Palestinian Centre.

 

The signing of the agreement was preceded by a detailed meeting in which a number matters were discussed such as bilateral issues, and the mechanisms which could help in the success of the agreement and cooperation. Thus, this will help contribute in the exchange of experience between the two parties, the development of services provided to citizens of the two cities, and the development of human capacity for workers in the two municipalities.

 

The Mayor of Hebron explained the political situation in Hebron and referred to the suffering of citizens of the old town, the security measures imposed by the Israeli occupation authorities on the population of the city and the continuous attacks by settlers on citizens.

 

On behalf of the citizens of the city of Hebron, Dr. Zatari sent greetings and showed appreciation for the Brazilian government and people for the continuous support for Palestinians issues fairly. In addition to supporting the Palestinian leadership in guiding and establishing a Palestinian state as an observer at the United Nations as a first step towards the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

 

Dr. Zatari stated that Palestinian people seek liberation from occupation and is working to achieve peace, which the Palestinian leadership, headed by President Mahmoud Abbas who is elected by the Palestinian people consider as a strategic choice. However, the Israeli side is not taking the peace conventions seriously in light of the continued building of settlements, gorging on Palestinian land and the denial of the legitimate rights of Palestinians approved by international conventions and legislations.

Furthermore, Dr. Zatari requested the visiting delegation to transfer their field observations and the real situation in Palestine in general and in the city of Hebron in particular, which is one of the oldest cities in the world. The Mayor also requested the activation of international solidarity with the Palestinian cause, which is one of the objectives of Hebron municipality in the weave of international relations various municipalities and cities of the world to transfer the real image of what is happening on the ground and expose the false Israeli propaganda depicting the executioner as a victim.

 

On the other hand, Poltronieri expressed his happiness to visit Palestine, which is to support the solidarity of the Palestinian and his belief advocated to the legitimate rights of Palestinians and to bond the ties between his city and the city of Hebron.

 

Moreover, Poltronieri stated that the settlement expansion that the Israeli government is undergoing is no doubt shocking, as by this approach the peace process is undermined. Furthermore, the Mayor of  Vacaria stated that Palestinian people are citizens of the land who will be free and will bring freedom to their children and Brazilians are liberal supporters of the Palestinian journey.

 

In the conclusion, Poltronieri wished the success of the agreement signed between the two municipalities being the first cooperation agreement between his city and a Palestinian city.

 

The Delegation was then taken to the old town of the city and around the Ibrahimi Mosque where they saw the reality of the daily lives of Palestinians, difficulties and procedures they face due to the occupation. In addition, the delegation visited a number of factories, and workshops such as specialized industries of handicrafts and traditional industries representing Hebron. A documentary about the City of Vacaria was then  presented which showed the historical, industrial, agricultural, scientific photos and activities of the municipality of  Vacaria.
