    Joint Services Council for Solid Waste Management and Environment Quality Authority Discuss Opportunity of Operating Al-Minia Landfill despite Israeli Intransigence


    Israeli Authority is still obstructing Al-Minina Landfill operation; Hebron and Bethlehem’s Joint Services Council for Solid Waste Management property, under the pretext of allowing the settlers to use the landfill. The project of Al-minia which’s located in C area, get licensed by Israeli Side before the implementation, and a grant for a total of 24 millions $ to execute the landfill was obtained from several donors and partners including the World Bank well as USAID the United Sates Agency For International Development.
     
    Dr. Daoud Zatari Head of Joint Services Council for Solid Waste Management underlined the illegality of settlements in Palestin and has entirely rejected allowing the settlers to use Al-minina Landfill.
     
    The meeting which was attended by Jameel Mtour Environment Quality Authority Vice-Chairman, Members of Hebron’s Council, Maher Owaiwi the General Manager, Eng. Yassir Dweik Executive Manager of the Joint Services Council for Solid Waste Management well as a staff of Environment Quality Authority discussed issues regarding Al-minia Landfill.
     
    Hebron Mayor spoke about International donor organizations’ efforts in exerting pressure on Israeli Authority in order to retreat pending the operation of Al-minia Landfill, also touched on efforts of Palestine’s Government chaired by Palestinian President Abbas who has followed up all issues concerning the project of Al-minia. Therafter, Dr. Mayor mentioned the Israel’s real intentions in deepening Palestinians suffering and in preventing development projects from been executed, “Israeli Authority always aims at collecting settlers’ wastes from all Palestinian Cities and relocate it to Negev Dumpsite, why then they mean to transferring their illegal settlements Wastes to Al-minia Landfill? “ he added.
     
    Moreover, Al-mtour appealed all Governmental parties and Civil Institutions to stand up to the Israeli decision as the project aims at ensuring enhancement in Palestine environment, adding that the Environment Quality Authority is always supporting the joint Services Council in operating al Minia Landfill. He also lauded the role played by the Council in executing the project in a record time.
     
    By the end of the meeting, both parties agreed on joint cooperation in many projects and Al-minia Landfill project in particular as well as Waste Water Treatment Project which was financed from several donors for a total of 50 millions $.
