    Hebron Municipality and ICRC Discuss the Old City Sanitation Project


     Mr. Maxime Dohogne, the Head of Mission at the ICRC, and his accompanied delegation, visited Hebron Municipality and met the Mayor Dr. Daoud Zatari to discuss cooperation opportunities regarding the implementation of the Sanitation Project at Hebron's Old City which has been hampered by the Israeli Authority.

    At the beginning of the meeting, the Mayor briefly put lights on the political, economic and security conditions in Hebron particularly in the Southern Area of the city, and touched on the Israeli Obstructions that prevent Hebron Municipality from implementing many developmental project in the H2 area.
     
    Dr. Zatari spoke about the suffering of  H2 area citizens as a result of the Settlers presence in and around areas adjacent to the Ibrahimi Mosque, the illegal closure of many streets and shops, as well as the obstructions that imposed on citizens movement and worship.
     
    the Mayor said"  the City Council is intended to achieve the Sanitation Project in the Old City, and the Israeli Side used to prevent the Municipal workers from complete their work". He added that it's necessary to make funds available from donors which is approximately $ 2.2 million  to support the sanitation project. Dr. Zatari then called the Head of Delegation to cooperate with Hebron Municipality and make the need coordination with the Israeli Side to enable the municipal staff to carry out the project in a short time.
     
    He also called the ICRC to keep providing services to the Old City Citizens to enhance their living conditions and to promote their steadfastness  to confront the Israeli Occupation.
     
    On his part, Mr.Dohogne  expressed willingness to cooperate with Hebron Municipality to ensure a decent living for the citizens in the southern area of the city, and affirmed that the ICRC will keep monitoring the situations and providing services to the citizens.
     
    by the end of the meeting, the both sides agree on joint cooperation that can achieve the public benefits.
