The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Morocco, Salah Alddin Mizwar expressed his sorrow for what is going on the ground in the City of Hebron and particularly in areas adjacent to Al-Ibrahimi Mosque, which are suffered of the Israeli Occupation's violent practices and of the continuous closing down by installing a number of military checkpoints. He also underlined the positive stances of Morocco's King and People towards the Palestinians' right in creating of a fully sovereign Palestinian State.
The minister was accompanied by Muhammad Al-Hamzawi, Morocco's Ambassador to Palestine. The Mayor of Hebron, Dr. Daoud Zatari as well as Hebron Governor, Mr. Kamel Hmeid welcomed the delegation and they then toured the Old City where they visited the Ibrahimi Mosque.
Dr. Zatari spoke about political and security conditions in the city, daily Palestinian suffering due to Israeli occupation and settler practices as well as attempts to displace the local population and to increase settlement activity. He recalled the massacre committed in Al Ibrahimi Mosque in 1994 by an Israeli army doctor who opened fire inside the Mosque, killing 29 worshippers. This led to the closing down of Al Shuhada Street and to the unjust division of Al Ibrahimi mosque which negatively affects the economic condition of the Old City which was once the vibrant heart of Hebron.
Moreover, the Mayor of Hebron lauded the role of the continuous visits made by Moroccan Ministers in promoting the Palestinian's steadfastness under the Israeli Occupation, and called to enhance the ties as well as to build cooperation between Palestine's employment sectors and their Arab Counterparts.
By the end of their visit, Minister Mizwar said that they got a view of what they had seen and heard about the condition of Hebron, adding that he hoped peace and justice would prevail in Palestine. He also underlined the need for a fair and just peace and the creation of a fully sovereign Palestinian State with Jerusalem as its capital.
