Dr. Dauod Zaatari welcomed a delegation from 'Euro-Mediterranean Regional and Local Assembly’s commission for sustainable development (SUDEV)’ in Hebron Municipality, headed by 'Michel Lebrun’ and accompanied by 'Dr Fatna El K’hiel’ Parliament deputy and Vice-President of the regional council in the Moroccan Kingdom.
Dr. Zaatari welcomed the delegation and expressed his pleasure to their visit, presenting a summary of the geography and history of the city. Dr. Zaatari focused on the old town and the issues that the population suffers from due to the Israeli settlers in the heart of the city unlawfully, noting the difficulty of life in the town and the continued closure of Shuhada Street and shop closures. And lastly, Dr Zaatari stated that he and the majority of Palestinian citizens are in favor of peace. He also illustrated his will in seeking full Palestinian membership in the UN,
Dr. Zaatari noted the Abraham Mosque massacre by Israelis and illustrated how Palestinians were penalized despite the fact that they were the victims. Dr. Zaatari also stated the difficulties that the municipality crew face to provide services due to Israeli occupation in the old town.
Moreover, a briefing about H1 and H2 division was declared showing the difficulties and sufferings that the people and the municipality employees face due to the closures and the occupation of the Israeli settlers unlawfully.
Lastly, Dr. Fatna Al K’hiel expressed her pleasure and thankfulness for the hospitality they received during their visit to Hebron. She also showed appreciation to the efforts that Dr. Zaatari does to provide citizens with quality services despite the difficulties they face due to the Israeli occupation and the harsh economical situation; confirming that they as an association are willing to cooperate with municipalities in Palestine.
Dr. Al K’hiel stated that she considers this visit a beginning to widen the working horizons between the SUDEV and Hebron Municipality. In addition, she invited the Mayor Dr. Zaatari and council members to visit Rabat in October of this year to participate in the Government International Conference by the institution.
Lastly, members of the delegation asked the mayor questions about the overall issue that relate to the political and economic situation and the daily lives of citizens.
