    Dr. Zatari Underlines the Palestinians’ Rejectionist Stance to Use Al-Minia Landfill by Settlers


    Dr. Daoud Zatari Head of Joint Services Council for Solid Waste Management of Hebron and Bethlehem raised the issue of operating Al-Minia Solid Waste Landfill to be on International Donor Organizations well as United States Agency for International Development’s top priority. He underlined “We are certain that the USAID will support this request which is considered as a strategic and a vital project, just as they have supported our other bids in the past”. Dr. Zatari also called David Harden USAID Mission Director to take the issue of Alminia Landfill under their responsibility.  

    In the meeting which was held at Joint Services Council for Solid Waste Management Office and was attended by Peter Riley USAID Water Resources and Infrastructure Director as well as Eng. Yassir Dweik Executive Director of Joint Services Council for Solid Waste Management, Dr. Zatari Said “The Landfill Project is a Palestinian Property and isn’t anyhow permit for illegal settlers to get the benefit, also the reality on the ground shows that Israel has the real desire to prevent Palestinians achieved development in the context of the City’ different sectors”. 

    Dr. Zatari gave a detailed presentation regarding latest developments of the Landfill Project, and noted that the project bases on international standards to ensure high quality services provided to Hebron and Bethlehem’s citizens. Thereafter, Dr. Zatari mentioned the Israeli Decision of operating the project under the condition of the settlers’ usage to the Dumpsite, and touched on  the role played by USAID in financing the road leading to the Dumpsite for a total of 3 million $.

    Mr. Harden thanked Dr. Zatari for warm hospitality and reception, and expressed his appreciation on the project executed achievements concerning the Joint Services Council high-tech efforts in implementing Al-Minia Landfill, stressing on USAID’s willingness to exert more pressure on Israeli Authority to operate the project.
