Hebron Mayor Dr. Daoud Zatari met with the Italian General Consul Mr. Davide La Cecilia During the meeting, which was also attended by members from Hebron’s Municipal Council, Dr. Zatari described to his guest political conditions in Hebron as well as violations committed against Old City inhabitants. He spoke about the daily suffering of inhabitants due to Israeli occupation measures imposed under the pretext of protecting settlers. “The Israeli occupation remains the main obstacle faced by Palestinian Municipalities in their effort to develop West Banks cities”, he said.
Dr. Zatari added that the Economic Peace which Israel desires can only succeed as part of the two-state solution. He spoke about violations against old city inhabitants which go against all international treaties and laws that call for the freedom of movement and worship. Dr. Zatari invited Italian tourists to visit Hebron in order to help enhance both its inhabitants' steadfastness and its economy. He also touched on projects implemented by the Municipality in line with its Strategic Plan, including the creation of an industrial zone specialized in Information Technology, as well as projects funded by the Italian Government in various fields including water, solar energyand the Science and Technology Park.
Mr.La Cecilia expressed his sympathy for the Palestinian People and stressed his interest inenhancing cooperation with Hebron Municipality. He wished all success to the water project funded by his government, hoped that peace would prevail in Palestine and promised to return to Hebron towards the end of October to follow up on various projects.
