The Mayor of Hebron, Dr. Daoud Zatari, received the delegations which participated in the held conference of Local Authority in solidarity with the Palestinian People, to give them a brief about the political condition of Hebron and its Old City. The reception was also attended by the Governor Kamel Hmeid as well as Mr. Mohammad Ghazi Herbawi, the president of Hebron's Chamber of Commerce.
After welcoming the delegations, Dr. Zatari spoke about political and security conditions in the city, daily Palestinian suffering due to Israeli occupation and settler practices, as well as the city division into H1 and H2, where H2 area is under the control of the Israeli Authority, he also spoke about attempts to displace the local population and to increase settlement activity, and touched on violations against Old City inhabitants which go against all international treaties and laws that call for the freedom of movement and worship. The closing down of Al Shuhada Street and to the unjust division of Al Ibrahimi mosque were also among issues have been discussed.
The Mayor called the visiting delegations to build cooperation and promote ties between their municipalities and Hebron Municipality, with a view to implement many vital projects in the city of Hebron, to share experiences in different field and to improve the capabilities of the human capacities.
Moreover, the Governor Hmeid thanked the delegations for their positive stance to support the Palestinian rights, and stressed on their role in achieving the just peace and in supporting rights guaranteed by international laws.
The representatives of the delegation sympathized with Palestinians and their just cause. They underlined the right of the Palestinians to build their State, end occupation and live in freedoms. This freedom must be achieved in Palestine as Palestinians have a right to self-determination, they added.
The Delegations toured the Old City where they visited Al Ibrahimi Mosque and areas adjacent to settlements in order to get a first-hand view of the reality on the ground and of Palestinian suffering.
