Hebron Mayor, Dr. Daoud Zatari, met with a delegation of European Union chaired by Martina Anderson. Their visit aimed at getting a first-hand view of Hebron's reality on the ground.
After welcoming the delegation, Dr. Zatari expressed his happiness for the delegation visit. He then touched on the ongoing and aggravating crisis that's particularly severe in the Gaza Strip, and underlined the need to ensure the EU support for the Palestinians' rights and to end the Israeli violation.
Dr. Zatari Spoke about the city's division into H1 and H2; where H1 Area is under the control of the Palestinian Authority whereas H2 area is under the dominant of the Israeli Occupation. He also spoke about Israeli violations committed against the Old City inhabitants under the pretext of protecting the settlers.
He referred to the bad economic situation in Hebron, as a result of closing down of the Old City shops by the Israeli Authority, "This situation prevents Hebron Municipality from improving and providing its services for the citizens there.” added the mayor.
On her part, Martina thanked the mayor for the warm reception and hospitality, and expressed her happiness to visit the City of Hebron.
Martina said that the Israeli Authority prevented them from entering the Gaza strip, and they are intending at revealing what has happened to the whole world. She then shared some pictures showing the demonstrations in their own countries as a stance of solidarity against the last Israeli war on the Strip.
She also expressed the EU willingness to support and protect the Palestinian people, and underlined the need to end the occupation and its violation.
Martina mentioned that they made a visit to Some of Gaza' injured who are receiving medical attention in the West bank hospitals, in addition to a visit to Muhammad Abu Khdeir's family in order to express condolences and sympathy.
