The Mayor of Hebron, Dr. Daoud Zatari briefed an Irish Delegation about the current condition of Hebron City and the Israeli violation against its citizens. The delegation was chaired by His Excellency Mr. David O'connor, the Mayor of Fingal Municipality, who was also accompanied by Mr. Waleed Abu Alhalaweh, Advisor of Minister of Local Government.
The Mayor welcomed the delegation, and gave a brief explanation about the city historical significance, its division into H1 and H2, and the suffering of the citizens who particularly live in the Old city, and in areas adjacent to illegal settlements that were established on Palestinian land.
Dr. Zatari then spoke about Economic situation of the city which lately get down as a result of obstruction imposed by the Occupation on the city’s entrances. He also underlined that the Municipality is seeking at deepening ties with cities around the world to open doors to the city human resources to promote their capacities.
Moreover, Dr. Zatari said “ the city of Hebron is considered as the second oldest city in the world” adding that the tourism is one of the main economic drivers to the city, which those days declined due to Israeli violating practices committed against the innocent civilians.
On his part, Mr. O'connor thanked the Mayor of Hebron for the warm reception and hospitality. He expressed happiness for his visit to Hebron, and put lights on services provided by his municipality in different sectors. He also expressed willingness to build cooperation with Hebron Municipality in economic development fields.
Thereafter, The visiting delegation visited Al-Ibrahimi Mosque, and toured the old city, to get a first-hand view of the citizens’ living conditions on the ground.
