The people of the city of Hebron used the open spaces in the Old City for the Al-Qirab industry. Al-Qirab is like a container for water storage; this industry was used to store drinking water.

During the nineteenth century, it was developed extensively because of the visitors who come to the city in addition to citizens' domestic consumption. Al-Qirab is an important site for storing potable water and then distributing it through Municipality water networks.
