Mayor of Hebron, Mr. Tayseer Abu Sneineh, called the United Nation Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), for an urgent intervention to protect Al Ibrahimi Mosque, from the policies of the Israeli occupation and the settlers violations. Recently, the Israelis  set up tents  in the mosque's squares, and this is considered as a violation for the place sanctity, of its cultural heritage. It is worth mentioning that the UNESCO has pledged to protect Al Ibrahimi Mosque and the Old city after their inscription of the UNESCO's World Heritage List.

Mr. Abu Sneineh also called the Palestinian National Authority to intensify efforts and  contact with human rights institutions to exert pressure on the Israeli Occupation in order to lift restriction on Al Ibrahimi Mosque, and to stop their attempts to  keep the Palestinian away from it.

Moreover,  Mayor Abu Sneineh warned the Israeli Occupation to stop their extreme use of violence against the Palestinians, particularly the citizens of Hebron, and to stop confiscating the Palestinian lands. He then appealed for an urgent international intervention to protect the Old city, and  added that The Israeli Occupation  is fully responsible for the continued attacks of the settlers against the city and its holy places, which go against all international treaties and laws.

Abu Sneineh underlined that Hebron Municipality is the responsible of Hebron city, and it will keep safeguarding the Islamic and Arabic identity of the Old City and Al Ibrahimi Mosque. He also referred to the efforts by the municipality to promote the Palestinian presence in the Old city, and to facilitate their living condition to withstand the Israeli Occupation  which also obstruct the municipal staff from providing services for the citizens living there.

At the end of his speech, Mayor Abu Sneineh said "Hebron is an Arabic and Islamic City, and no one could forge the Palestinian history". Then, he called  all Palestinian institutions and citizens to cooperate and move forward under the direction of the Palestinian leadership, headed by President Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen).
